Episode #39: 1963 Timeline Twist & The Mysterious Deaths of Dr. Bogle & Mrs. Margaret Chandler

8/21/2024: On today’s episode, Valerie presents the very special JFK heavy Timeline Twist for 1963, including troubling conflicts in Vietnam, notable moments in the US Civil Rights Movement, the introductions of Colt 45 malt liquor and the Easy-Bake Oven, Pop Art, a new Canadian TV show with a title as sad as a handmade pine needle, the emergence of The Beatles as international superstars, and a discussion on some of the wilder JFK assassination conspiracy theories. Next, Amy Jo tells the puzzling story of two bodies found near Fairyland in New South Wales, Australia on New Years’ Day in 1963. She recounts how a tabloid newspaper war of the time exploited the story’s elements of nudity, sex, and adultery, and how the mystery deepened due to the strange way the bodies were covered (a fact only resolved with a deathbed confession).  The deaths were labeled “unnatural” until a 2006 documentary uncovered new details, a third-hand eyewitness account, and eventually a surprising, but mostly natural, culprit.
